Site Study

Recipe for Home explores what it means to make home, rather than simply produce housing, to address social precarity. The theme of food —as a daily ritual, a social gathering point, and an economic driver
— grounds this project, as the site in Poughkeepsie’s Ward 2 is a food desert.

The proposal integrates supportive housing into a community farm, a new home for Poughkeepsie’s farmers market, and a grocery store. The questions of home and food are questions of security and agency, interdependence and independence. Recipe for Home creates sustainable opportunities for growth.
